Whiskey & Movies: Aquaman & Jefferson’s Ocean Bourbon

Aquaman & Jefferson’s Ocean Bourbon

Once I decided to watch Aquaman selecting which whiskey to drink was easy - Jefferson’s Ocean Aged at Sea, a bourbon influenced and inspired by the ocean.

Let’s dive into my thoughts on the Ocean Master & the bourbon!

Purchased on Apple’s iTunes, watched via Apple TV at home.

This is a first for me - I give Aquaman both a 1 and a 10 rating!

Right from the start, I hated the movie, it had multiple moments that were on the nose/cheesy bad, however by the end of the movie I was in 100% . I could not wait to watch all the extra features included in iTunes. This was the first time I’ve seen Jason Momoa on screen (yes, I am behind on the DC universe). I know many people think he is a beefcake, but I'd rather go to happy hour and drink whiskey with him.

iTunes movie description: An action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman” reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.

What I enjoyed most about Aquaman was the bizarre way that it was five movie genres packed into one superhero tale. It was a coming of age drama, action-adventure, science fiction, romantic comedy, and horror. Oddly enough the horror-like scene was my favorite (yes, highly out of character for me). It was one of the most visually stunning and the CGI work I applaud. I have geeked out reading about the new technology they created to make Aquaman, which is fascinating for me but I will avoid boring you with those details. We will talk whiskey instead!

Story behind the bottle: In 2012, Jefferson’s Bourbon partnered with OCEARCH, to test out a theory. With the idea that constant movement of the liquid in the barrels ages the whiskey faster because more of the liquid is in contact with the wood more often, Zoeller strapped five barrels of Jefferson’s bourbon to the OCEARCH’s mothership and at-sea laboratory. The barrels stayed onboard for more than three years crossing through the Panama Canal six times.“When we tapped into the barrels, it completely exceeded my expectations.” Each voyage of Jefferson’s Ocean typically crosses the equator four times, visits five continents and over 30 ports on an average sailing..

Hand-picked as a bottle featured at one of our Silver Coins private whiskey pop-in tastings. This was one of five bottles featured for a special birthday party celebration and one of the top picks amongst the guests. The whiskies from Jefferson’s are constantly pushing the boundaries of the definition of bourbon. It is perfectly inlined with a movie like Aquaman, pushing the boundaries of visual effects and creating new worlds we have yet to see on screen.

For the record the ocean is terrifying and there is not enough money in the world to pay me to go explore the deep blue sea and discover what is on the ocean floor. I’ve seen The Meg (you know I snuck Jim Beam in my flask for that amazingly horrible movie!), instead of jumping in the sea, I salute to watching future crazy ocean movies from the comfort of my sofa!
